So many nonprofits were nominated for #SupportingOurSector this year and we were overwhelmed with the heartwarming nominations that came in! When we designed this initiative, we wanted to be sure to help amplify the causes that our community cares about. In response to the dozens of organizations and hundreds and hundreds of meaningful recommendations we read through, we’re sharing the list of nominated organizations with links to their website and social media pages, and a selection of the nominations we received.
We encourage you to visit them and learn about a new organization, or more about one you may already be familiar with.
A Sense of Home
“A Sense of Home provides homes for young adults that age out of the foster care system. The feeling of having a safe and loving home is what helps enable human beings to thrive in life. Many of these children have faced unthinkable situations and A Sense of Home provides a community to these people. Alternative Roadmap
“Alternative Roadmap is an incredible organization addressing the lack of social mobility for youth in under-served communities by liberating a student’s thinking and opportunity. They are working feverishly to get rid of the stigma associated with the all too familiar concept that “without a college degree, one can’t be successful”. Amigas 4 My Soul
“We are a women’s organization dedicated to offering women resources and tools they need to grow, break cycles and live life purposefully and courageously. We host different workshops and conferences for women throughout all of Los Angeles to the OC, Long Beach and the Valley. We also run youth programs for girls at different schools where we focus on topics like vision boarding, self-esteem, anti-bullying & peer pressure. Arts Bridging the Gap
“This group works with young people from a wide spectrum of socio-economic backgrounds to help engage and empower them around issues of social justice. They bring public and private school students together and lead them through a series of workshops in environmental justice and art that culminate in a public art project for the students’ shared community in Los Angeles. Child Care Resource Center
“Child Care Resource Center works to support the children, families and child care providers in our sector. They provide critical services to an underserved population with a focus on quality, education, development and advocacy. CCRC is keenly focused on the importance of the first five years of a child’s life and places a heavy emphasis on the necessity for access to high quality early learning environments. They do so by educating parents and the public on what quality means, and equipping child care providers with trainings, resources, and one on one support. Clockshop
“Clockshop mounts amazing, cross disciplinary arts programming in a truly unique Frogtown setting — the “Bowtie Parcel,” a former rail yard and switching station purchased by CA State Parks in 2003 to be developed as a public park and greenway. In the meantime, as a result of unique public/private partnership, Clockshop commissions site-specific works and programs at the Bowtie, from literary readings by moonlight, to land art sculptural interventions.” -Kathleen J.
