Podcasting is continuing to grow with new ones starting daily and topics ranging from murder mysteries to insomnia friendly bedtime stories (it is called Sleep With Me, and it is an adult insomniac’s best friend). There are also a number of social sector relevant podcasts, including our favorite social impact ones which we featured in a post earlier this year. Continuing with our month’s focus on encouragement, inspiration, and generosity, the following are a few podcasts that speak to the theme.
While no longer producing new content, the 52 archived episodes are an interesting listen. The story of Generous Giving began in the 1990s when five friends came together, challenged by the question of what could happen if Christians were truly generous with their resources, living out the joy of giving instead of the duty of tithing. They talked with a handful of people who were already experiencing this joy and asked them to share with others how living in faith-driven generosity had brought extreme transformation to their hearts and lives.
This podcast focuses on UNICEF’s work in health, education, equality and protection of children. Blue Chevigny hosts it with UNICEF correspondents from around the globe. It recently restarted but we particularly like their episode 50 which highlights significant progress seen in education in 2011. It is inspiring when it feels like large scale problems are entrenched and our efforts seem to be having little effect.
Parenting podcasts are plentiful and varied. This podcast’s episode 26 on helping children find purpose in life and episode 25, helping your child practice gratitude are worth checking out, though. The host, Tameka Anderson, is an author, court-appointed special advocate for youth in foster care, specialty foster parent, and sits on the Governor’s Board of Children & Family Services Task Force team. She is a parenting coach and self-confidence mentor for professional moms and has coached moms for years to build confidence, boost performance and increase happiness in their children. The podcast is here to offer you strategies and tips for increasing confidence in your children and help them excel in school and life.
For the younger children in your life, Five Minutes With Dad stars toddlers Pavlos and Angela Pavlidis and their dad Nick Pavlidis. This is the podcast where you get to listen in on a little father-son and daddy-daughter time and learn about great resources to connect with your kids. With young child attention span-friendly length episodes, we particularly like their recent episode 122 on geneoristy and rewarding good behavior.
This podcast is fast-paced and fun-filled and focuses on ethics for kids and their parents that asks those curly questions. From banning lollies to trusting robots, and from colonising other planets to eating pets, Short & Curly covers it all.
