So many nonprofits were nominated for #SupportingOurSector and we were overwhelmed with the heartwarming nominations that came in! When we designed this initiative, we wanted to be sure to help amplify the causes that our community cares about. In response to the dozens of organizations and hundreds and hundreds of meaningful recommendations we read through, we’re sharing the list of nominated organizations with links to their website and social media pages, and a selection of the nominations we received.
We encourage you to visit them and learn about a new organization, or more about one you may already be familiar with.

Katie’s Krops
“Katie’s Krops was founded in 2010 by Katie Stagliano, who in 2008 at the tender age of 9 grew a 40 pound cabbage in her backyard and donated it to a soup kitchen where it fed 275 people. Moved by the experience, she started Katie’s Krops, which currently has over 100 youth-run gardens in 32 states. “This organization organizes beach clean ups every Sunday. They walk along the beach picking up trash of all types. They also go out into Santa Monica bay to remove floating trash and debris. The founders of the organization also give of themselves to save turtles around the world. Even in the most dangerous of places, like Costa Rica, where they literally risk their lives to ensure the turtle eggs hatch. They then bring that knowledge back here and do offshore searches for injured or entangled turtles and help them here at home as well. They are an excellent example of what people can do when they do more than just talk a big game on social media. They get out there, get dirty, and make good changes happen.” – Anonymous
