With the race to capitalize on year end giving well underway for most nonprofit executives, we thought we might take a few moments to highlight the valuable role of gratitude this holiday season. From working among driven colleagues and inspirational clients, to helping our nonprofit clients reach more individuals in need and grow their mission, at Starfish Impact we’re grateful to be a part of the social fabric of our communities and to support nonprofits that are creating real impact.
A few nonprofit executives share moments of gratitude with us as well:
“In this volatile world where inequity is ubiquitous, I am grateful to be serving a mission I believe in alongside a community of dedicated, soulful colleagues at a place where love is part of our lexicon and laughter is an essential ingredient to our daily work.”
Jonathan Zeichner
Executive Director
A Place Called Home
“I’m grateful of the time I get to spend every day with 1,600 dedicated staff, and of the opportunity and obligation we all share to lead a place-based approach to fighting poverty in Los Angeles.”
Dixon Slingerland
Executive Director
Youth Policy Institute
“I am forever grateful for my family, community, and faith … and as the holiday season approaches, I reflect and honor these values as they continue to drive who I am and my commitment to social change.”
Rafael Gonzalez
Director, Best Start Communities
First 5 LA
“This holiday season, I’m grateful to the communities across the US who have embraced our model to end global poverty through good, dignified jobs. From Los Angeles to Pittsburgh to New York City, a huge thanks to our supporters from all walks of life who have made the commitment to stick with our families in Haiti until they no longer need us.”
Vivien Luk
Executive Director
Team Tassy
This holiday season, I am grateful for the resilient girls and committed women in our Step Up community. Together we are determined to create a positive pathway. I’m grateful to work hand in hand with women who believe in the power and potential of the next generation.”
Jamie Kogan
Managing Director
Step Up Women’s Network
“I am fortunate to be grateful for so much in my life including my family and our good health, my loving ‘extended family’ of friends, the joy of doing something I love which allows me to make a positive difference every day, and the beauty of living in this amazing ‘City of Angels.’”
Deidre Lind
President
Mayor’s Fund Los Angeles
“I am grateful to be able to do what I love, for an organization and people that make a real difference – it is a gift. Seeing the people we serve at Goodwill, day in and day out, inspires me and gives me great perspective. When you see folks with disabilities expend so much energy and effort just to show up, and take such pride and enjoy the work and camaraderie as they do – it is heartwarming and deeply inspiring!”
Sasha Itzikman
Vice President, Marketing and Community Affairs
Goodwill Southern California
“I am grateful for the loved ones that are supportive of their risk takers. I am thankful for my child care provider who takes care of my son like he is family. I appreciate my friends who are passionate about life and will always go the extra mile to help someone.”
David Andrés Kietzman
